[RL with Yuan: Merry Christmas~]
Overall, Jacky had been to Grand Chokmah a few times in the past to visit. But ever since Yuan had wound up in the hospital, first for miasma poisoning and then for his attempted suicide, Jacky had come more frequently. Not so much since he had awoken, though. Yuan had made it painfully clear that he wanted little to do with her or Kratos. Not that it stopped her from contacting him when she could, but she had the distinctive effort to keep a physical distance.

There were so many factors that made the need for physical distance for Yuan necessary. He had been recovering still, naturally, and too many visitors too often would disturb his recovery. Before any of this the three had not been on good terms to start with either. And that letter... it explained so much to her.

Jacky was still unsure of what to make of that letter. And Kratos and her had never discussed it. Yuan's safety and his health were top priority, though she never had the chance to see him anymore. It worried her. If she didn't know that Yuan had others he would allow to care for him, even if he verbally refused, then she would have been more worried. As it was, she had merely resigned herself to her fate, allowing Yuan the space he desired while keeping in contact still so he could not claim that she didn't try as he had done.

As much as Yuan liked to say that Jacky didn't care for him he couldn't have been more wrong. She cared for him too much, sometimes. She had started fights with Kratos on his behalf in the past. And though she would never say it, it hurt her more than anything the way Yuan denied her. She felt insignificant and that she made no difference to the people she cared for most. And it caused her to have insecurities. She constantly worried that she never did enough for Kratos or Shuraiya now as well. She couldn't survive another event like Yuan's.

Arriving at the hospital was simple, especially now that Peony had helped her to gain access to Yuan's room. But she didn't enter cheerfully as she normally would. Instead, she knocked carefully. She couldn't be herself around Yuan at the moment. It would only upset him and ruin everything again. She would have to settle for restraining herself.

"Yuan?" She called to him softly, praying he hadn't changed his mind.

The past several days had been exceedingly stressful for Yuan, what with the rescue mission and everything else that had happened to Tieria and the others. As much as he'd tried to deny it, he'd been worried about them. Tieria had aided him on more than one occasion in the past and proven himself to be a trustworthy, intelligent person-- something that was all too rare around this community, at least in Yuan's mind. That was why, when Yuan had received that note with the portion addressed to him, it had been like a punch to the gut.

The ensuing rescue mission (which he had assisted with) had taken a lot out of him. Though he hadn't said a word to anyone about where he had gone, it was clear that it had affected his health greatly. Most of the time since he returned had been spent sleeping... which was what he was currently doing while he awaited Jacky's visit.

He hadn't meant to fall asleep, really. He'd simply shut his eyes to rest them for a few moments. But the nest he'd made for himself in the blankets was so warm, and he was so tired...

When Jacky got no response from Yuan she suspected he might be sleeping. To confirm her suspicions she gently pushed the door open and peeked inside. There he was, curled up inside his blankets sleeping so peacefully. She prayed he was having good dreams for once, though she suspected otherwise after what he had posted about. She wasn't the only one with troubled sleep. None of them were. None of them could sleep well anymore, it seemed.

Jacky wasn't sure at all how much Yuan really wanted to see her and how much of it was just him letting her get what she wanted for once. He had spent so much time pushing her away, she really believed he didn't care for her or Kratos at all anymore. And quite honestly... she had almost given up hope on him. Almost. She had still bought him a gift, which she held in her right hand, and brought him hot chocolate. Something warm for the cold season.

Seeing him sleep, though... maybe it was better just to let him rest. He probably wouldn't miss her. She set his things down on a nearby table for him to have when he woke up and turned to leave. She hesitated a moment at the door before approaching him and gently brushing his cheek, hoping the comforting touch might fade into his dreams and make them peaceful. She leaned over and briefly kissed his forehead before turning to leave again.

No matter what, he still meant so much to her.

Somewhere deep in Yuan's mind, beyond the nightmares that constantly haunted his sleep, the soft touch on his cheek registered and his eyes slowly fluttered open to see a slim figure standing beside his bed.

Jacky. So she'd come to see him after all. A part of him had had his doubts as to whether she would actually visit after everything that had happened between the three of them lately; things certainly hadn't been all sunshine and roses and Yuan knew quite well that most of that was his fault. He'd done that on purpose, after all. It was for their own good... or so he'd convinced himself.

"You could at least say hello," he remarked, pushing himself up to a sitting position and brushing his hair out of his face. It wouldn't do to look tired in front of her; she'd just start worrying over him, which would annoy him, which would anger her, and then things would likely escalate to a fight.

At the sound of Yuan's voice, Jacky stopped in the door. She turned and offered him a gentle smile as she leaned against the frame of the door. She was ready to leave should he choose to be rid of her again. She wouldn't protest this time. She was tired of fighting with him all the time anymore... she missed him the way he used to be.

"I am sorry. I thought you would prefer to sleep," She explained to him politely. It was strange. She felt like she was talking to a stranger almost. She had had a relationship with this man before. She had barged into his room and forcefully stopped him from drinking and taken control of the situation. She had lived with him as a friend. And now she stood on the other side of the room from him, wondering for the first time who he was anymore... He wasn't the Yuan she used to know. And she couldn't be the Jacky he used to know.

Remembering the things she had brought, she gestured to them for him to see next to him. "I brought you your gift and some hot chocolate. I thought you might enjoy it with the season," She explained to him. How polite she sounded... a voice she reserved for when she wanted to behave like a proper lady like she was always told to be. She didn't approach him or move other than her gesture. She wasn't sure if he would allow it and she wasn't out to pick a fight with him tonight. They were both being civil to one another for the first time in a long time.

"Not when I have visitors." He kept his voice and face neutral to avoid giving her the wrong idea... it wasn't that he wanted her to be there. Of course not. Being around her and Kratos was still far too painful for him at this point, and there was little doubt that it was awkward for them as well. He hadn't planned on being alive after they had read that letter...

His eyes followed her finger, his gaze falling upon the items on the bedside table. A gift? But he didn't have anything for her... shopping for presents had been the last thing on his mind lately. He'd only bought gifts for Maraich, Matthias, Demyx and Komui because Maraich had insisted and he couldn't very well show up at the party empty-handed. Besides, he didn't have the first clue about giving presents anyway, much less what someone like Jacky would want.

But he could deal with the issue of the gift later. Right now, the hot chocolate was going to go cold if he didn't drink it. It wasn't that he needed it, or even particularly cared about food or drink, but the hot liquid would do wonders to help warm him up. Carefully he reached out to take the cup, bringing it up to his lips to blow on it. A nod of appreciation was the only thanks he gave before taking a sip.

Yuan didn't sound agitated or upset, yet, and Jacky could tell he was at least trying. She didn't let the comment bother her. She wouldn't have anyways... it was only around Yuan that she got so defensive. The pair had been fighting since the first time they met, almost literally. Jacky vaguely remembered when Kratos brought her to the base after her battle. Even then she had snapped at Yuan. She wondered why they fought so much when she could get along with others so nicely? Hell... Shuraiya was her brother now, and he wanted to kill all pirates in general. Where did she go so wrong with Yuan?

She was happy to see Yuan drinking the hot chocolate. She hadn't been entirely sure that he would. But he seemed to accept it with no argument. That was always a good thing. She watched him a moment longer, remaining on her side of the room. Why were things so awkward all the time now?

"I was only able to get you a few small things I thought you might like," She finally said. "Traveling makes shopping a little difficult." Jacky hadn't actually bought anything. She had made Yuan's gifts. A small painting of the scenery on the Mississippi since he could not travel with them, a dreamcatcher to help with the nightmares that she had made while spending some time with local Indians, and a necklace she had made as well that she hoped he might wear, but she doubted he would.
